GREAT Wakering Rovers may have fallen just short on the pitch at Wembley on Saturday but off it the club's fans were in fine form.

Rovers were roared on by more than 3,200 fans in the FA Vase final.

And, despite a 3-0 defeat to fellow Essex Senior League side Romford, Wakering's supporters remain rightfully proud of Marcus Bowers' side.

Rovers super-fan Lewis Searle-Cook said: "It was a great day out and to watch my local team at Wembley is a great achievement.

"It's something I'll never forget.

"Yes we're disappointed not to get the victory but getting to the final is a win.

"Congratulations to Romford and now it's on to next season."

All three of Romford's goals came in the second half Hassan Nalbant scoring either side of a well-taken effort from Sam Deering.

But Wakering skipper Ben Search is keeping his head high.

"These are memories that last a lifetime," said Search.

"What we've done is unbelievable and it's a great achievement.

"It's a bit annoying to fall short but I don't think we were good enough on the day if we're being honest.

"It's tough but we must say a huge thanks to the fans.

"They've been unbelievable and we can't thank them enough.

"They've been our 12th man throughout the season but fair play to Romford today.

"They took their chances and congratulations to them."
