BASILDON rugby club's under 18 girls side produced a stunning performance to win the National Cup final this afternoon.
Basildon's youngsters dug deep to beat Sandal 21-17 in an entertaining encounter at the Sixways Stadium in Worcester.
And Basildon coach Simon Beadle was left overwhelmed by the victory.
"I'm absolutely over the moon," said Beadle.
"I'm so proud of the girls, the team, the supporters, coaches and everyone involved in what we've done.
"It's been a fantastic day for us all and every single player played a part."
But Basildon were made to work hard for the win.
"We were dominant in the forwards but in fairness to Sandal they were very good defensively," said Beadle.
"We kept going and it's just reward for all the hard work everyone has put in."
